Miranda is currently a professional expert in educational leadership at the Centre for Educational Leadership and a doctoral candidate at the University of Auckland. She has over 25 years of experience working in a range of secondary schools as a science educator and as a school leader. Miranda has been involved in the foundation of two new secondary schools, most recently establishing a year 11-13 school with an innovative learning environment (ILE). Miranda has expertise in curriculum design and leading system level change for improvement. For example, pioneering student-directed passion projects called Impact Projects in a senior school. Such innovations represent a huge shift from the familiar subject-based teaching and learning and require teachers to develop new approaches to be effective.
As a research-practitioner Miranda is committed to working with leaders and teachers to grow effective teaching practices in both non-traditional and traditional settings. Miranda has studied the qualities of middle leaders’ professional inquiry conversations intended to support teachers’ professional growth. Currently, she is working with schools in her doctoral study to explore and develop the leadership capabilities necessary for rigorous inquiry to promote school improvement.
